The palace was a prison in Middle Ages; only in the 19th century it became the first National Museum Florence has ever had. It preserves the main sculptures of the most famous Renaissance artists: Donatello, Verrocchio, Michelangelo, Della Robbia, Cellini, Giambologna, Ammannati and many others. The museum actually shows a big collection of works of art from the Charlemagne period to the Baroque one.
